Cruze reached out about getting Art Literacy going again. This is an art group run by PTC. Every other month* a tote is sent with artist info and supplies and it would be an art lesson. The thought is teachers would get volunteers for the lessons. There would need to be an art lit coordinator. That person would need to go to District training. The totes rotate around schools so it would be on some type of a schedule.
Advertise for Art Lit position
Christine(parent) had suggestions on giving out more info on What PTC does. Maybe a flyer with some events and what PTC does exactly.

7:05-7:10 President’s Report
● Field trip updates
4th grade- OMSI, April 16th (paid in full)
Amanda to coordinate with Middle School about those trips
Parents frustrated that OMSI seems to be the most repetitive field trip. A lot of kids have gone to OMSI every year.
Confusion on the 2 parent limit for field trip volunteers? This seems like a very unsafe ratio. Crystal emailed Johanna(District Volunteer coordinator) for clarification.
We need the field trip bus estimate.

● Parents were concerned that there was no popcorn left way before closing time. PTC were told to shut down the machine. Feedback was that the cafeteria was not smelly OR smokey.
Parents were concerned about the gym being closed 15 minutes prior to the dance. Also that it was very chaotic with all of the yoga balls in there.
Crafts were done well in cafeteria but should be closer to the door so people can see it better and not be in the way.
Concerns about the wi-fi and having to pay for tickets at the food table.
Moving forward, communication will include PE teachers so there is clear communication on the spaces that we need.

January 8, 2025
7:00-7:05 Introductions - a few new attendees, no sign in sheet was passed around
7:05-7:20 Guest Speaker
● Kimberly Schultz from Safe Routes to School presentation
Safe Routes is a team of four women working in the district as part of a nationwide program to encourage walking, biking and busing to school. They provide Pedestrian Education programs which are mandatory for schools to provide every three years. AHP will be doing this program during PE classes in January. Program is known as “Scooter Town” where students will learn how to bike or walk to school safely, adhering to street signs, cars and crosswalks. They work closely with the transportation department to keep bus stops safe, including talking with the City or County about putting in more sidewalks and street lights as they know this is a major concern for most schools.
7:20-7:25 President’s Report
● Happy New Year! Welcome back! All class parties have taken place for those classes that earned parties for raising over $500 during the Cougar Run, thank you Amanda for your hard work on this
● Field trips-3rd grade OMSI field trip is confirmed and paid for. Other grade teams are working on planning. Front office staff is working on a request sheet for grade leads to fill out when requesting their field trips. This will include the need to pre-fund for transportation. Once the field trip is reviewed, it’s sent to transportation to schedule buses. They provide an estimated cost, these funds need to be in the school account before the bus can be scheduled. The school currently does not have enough funds required. PTC will provide the funds equal to the estimated cost provided by transportation. We will then “true-up” the amounts once the field trip takes place and the actual amount is billed.

Friendship Dance

● Similar to Fall Ball (DJ in big gym, games in small gym,
concessions in cafeteria, crafts, raffle baskets)
Suggestions included:
Selling Mochi toys instead of using them for grams
Move the craft table to a bigger area and add tables. Lots of interest during fall ball but not enough room for students to actually do crafts. Was recommended to move into the small gym if we don’t have as many games as the fall ball
Will be using candy purchased during the halloween sale for this event, won’t need to purchase more
Club K made things difficult for the setup team as they were not aware the fall ball was occurring. Christine and Sarita will follow up with them so they are more prepared for the setup crew to come in earlier and not disrupt their work.
7:45-7:50 Principal’s Report
Duel Language Pathways and Presentations are occurring this week, there will be sessions during the day and in the evenings for interested parents. Communication will be coming out this week.
Coffee chats are going well, lots of turn out at both the day and evening events.
During the meeting, one parent brought up the need to communicate when the Lost and Found is being donated. It’s donated to the BSD Clothes Closet three times a year (before fall break, before spring break and at the end of the school year). There was no communication before the first donation, Sarita said she would try to make sure communication comes out earlier and often regarding the lost and found.

Principal’s report
School visit October 30, Superintendent and a couple of board members came to visit. They were impressed with Dual Language and overall involvement.
November 21, Dual Language Info Night. This is a night to recruit incoming Kinder families.
Parent asked what qualifications there are for a child to get into the dual language class. Sarita said they fill out an application and set up a meeting with Cervantes to go over what the expectation is. She mentioned they invite families on a school tour to help families make the best decision. If a family is part of dual language across the district, they honor that here as well. Another parent suggested that they take home work for English speaking kids that want to be in Dual Language.Sarita states that 2nd grade is not the cut off for Dual Language entry. That AHP does not want to turn students away.
Sharon Smith is taking over the 5th grade yearbooks
Parent asked who is taking kids from recess to lunch. They are saying the kitchen is closed sometimes when the teachers outside are holding kids for ‘acting up’. This parent said something needs to be done. Christine said she is bouncing around monitoring different grades and making sure they are on time. Christine said the Kitchen does not close. Cafeteria team is always there working and prepping. Busses are staggering more so it’s helping kids flow more. Breakfast bags are on a cart and they are offered to students who come in late. Another parent mentioned the teacher is holding the kids because the kids are talking.
A parent mentioned the timing with the second recess, 40 minutes from PE. Sarita said they never took away time from recess. Christine said 35 minutes of movement minutes on top of 40 for PE is required.

Cougar Run
● Recap
It ran smoothly and feedback was positive except the water was a little far. The reason is the trash gets spread out all over the track. Teachers did great encouraging kids to bring their reusable water bottles.
Teachers need to make sure to either come get their students or let volunteers know that it’s okay to release the kids at the end.
Maybe put stickers on arms next year. Especially on the kids with longer hair.
Why no spectators? We explained this is a District Rule, not a PTC rule.
2 people in between each tent as supervision..
“Cheer Section” for volunteers was suggested
Move water station closer to track
Allergies - teachers could put a dot on their run sticker and what they’re allergic to?
Move water table closer to track, especially for the smaller kids.
New Business
Parents are asking to come help during school time or at more events or come watch events.

PlayWorks works with staff who supervises playground duty. How to work with each other and there has been improvement with the students in getting along and using recess for it’s purpose.
Several parents were stating the time to eat lunch does not allow for them to eat in an appropriate amount of time. They are supposed to have 25 minutes to sit and eat.
